Rainbow Runtz strain

Rainbow Runtz is a hybrid sold under one name but bred from several different crosses: the one most often cited as the original is Zkittlez × Do-Si-Dos, with no confirmed breeder, and Wizard Trees in Los Angeles sells its Runtz × RS11 as Rainbow RZ.1,2,3 In only 77 state lab tests, a small sample, its flower had a median total THC of 21.73%, with the middle half of results between 17.89% and 25.33%; CBD is negligible: none of the 14 tests that reported CBD reached 1%.4 Leafly’s top effects for it, from user reports, are relaxed, sleepy and hungry.2

A hybrid, though sources lean different ways. AllBud lists it as an evenly balanced 50/50 hybrid and Weedmaps as a hybrid; Leafly files it under indica and rates its effects mostly calming, yet describes modern Rainbow Runtz as a hybrid. Hypno Seeds’ autoflower version is 60% indica.1,2,5,9

What strain is Rainbow Runtz?

Several, depending on who grew it. Weedmaps calls it "basically four different strains wearing the same trench coat": a Zkittlez × Do-Si-Dos double cross widely cited as the original, Wizard Trees’ Runtz × RS11, Exotic Genetix’s Rainbow Chip × Runtz and Chosen Seeds’ Rainbow Candy × Gelato #41. Seed companies add Runtz × Kush Mints and other crosses (see genetics).1,8,10

How strong is Rainbow Runtz?

Our measurements come from a small sample: the median total THC across 77 state lab tests was 21.73%, and 28.6% reached 25% or more.4 Leafly lists 25% and AllBud 21–23%, while seed sellers advertise up to 31%.2,5,8,11

What does Rainbow Runtz taste like?

Floral and fruity, by most accounts. Leafly users list pear, rose and flowery notes, and Leafly describes "a candy front with a pungent fuel back"; Weedmaps describes pear and rose over an earthy, herbal base, and AllBud a sweet pear flavor with apricot and lavender.1,2,5

Who makes Rainbow Runtz?

Nobody owns the name. Weedmaps says the original has no confirmed breeder; Wizard Trees, a Los Angeles cultivator, sells its Runtz × RS11 as Rainbow RZ, and Exotic Genetix, Philosopher Seeds and Hypno Seeds have sold seed versions. Exotic Genetix now lists its version as retired.1,3,6,8,9

Is Rainbow Runtz the same as Runtz?

No. Runtz is a Zkittlez × Gelato hybrid made by Cookies Fam and popularized by the Runtz crew from Long Beach, and it was Leafly’s Strain of the Year in 2020; it is a parent of most Rainbow Runtz versions but not of the original Zkittlez × Do-Si-Dos account. Growers Choice says Rainbow Runtz does not seem to have clear ties to the Runtz brand.1,11,12

  • Rainbow Runtz was on the variable side for THC: from 17.89% to 25.33%, the middle half covered 7.44 points, leaving it 48th narrowest among 52 qualifying strains.4
  • For Rainbow Runtz, the 20% THC line was reached by 62% of flower tests; the 25% line by 29%; the 30% line by 0%.4
  • Outside references ran narrow-high: Leafly lists 25%, a cutoff 29% of Rainbow Runtz flower tests attained, and AllBud gives 21–23%, with 9.1% inside it.2,4,5

A Runtz-family name without its own sales chart

Rainbow Runtz does not appear in the rankings we checked: Leafly’s best-selling strains of 2025, The Marijuana Herald’s September 2026 list of top sellers by state, and Leafly’s 100 best strains.13,14,15 Runtz, a parent of most Rainbow Runtz versions, does. It was #1 in Leafly dispensary orders in Michigan and Nevada in 2025 and Michigan’s top seller in August 2026, and Leafly wrote that Michigan was "still very much in the throes of Runtz-mania", with dozens of Runtz variations on dispensary shelves.13,14

Leafly lists 129 ratings for Rainbow Runtz, averaging 4.6.2 Michigan also dominates our lab data, with 63 of the 77 tests, and on Oct 4, 2026 Weedmaps showed Rainbow Runtz flower at 190 store listings in 12 of 27 markets, 95 of them around Los Angeles.4,16
