How published THC figures compare

Strain databases publish single figures or narrow ranges: Leafly lists 25% THC and AllBud 21–23%, and Weedmaps gives no figure.2,3,4 Seed sellers advertise more: Hypno Seeds gives about 22% for its autoflower, Growers Choice says Exotic Genetix’s cross reaches up to 27% and that some samples reportedly reach 31%, and Philosopher Seeds headlines its Runtz × Kush Mints with "THC up to 31%".5,6,7

In our small lab sample, 90% of Rainbow Runtz flower tested below 26.25% and 28.6% reached 25% or more; the highest single result was 29.10%, below the 31% in seed catalogs.1 With 63 of the 77 tests from Michigan, all of them from 2021–2022, these figures mainly describe Michigan flower of those years.1

Limits of this data

  • Coverage is thin and dated. Michigan (63), California (7), Washington (7) supply all 77 tests, 64 of them from 2021–2022; the latest is from 2024. Oregon and Rhode Island results carry no product names and could not be matched.
  • Michigan labs report no CBD values, so the CBD figures come from the 14 tests that did. Washington tests count only when the strain field and the product name both name the strain; 16 Washington flower results with only a generic product name were left out.
  • Some labs report higher THC than others, so we publish medians and middle ranges rather than maxima. No single lab accounts for more than 22.1% of these tests (14 labs in total).
  • We matched names strictly: 8 results under near-miss names, among them crosses such as "Rainbow Runtz × Sunset Runtz" and names with extra words such as "Apex Rainbow Runtz Bud", are excluded and counted, and duplicate certificates are removed; bare numbers count as lot codes, so names such as "Rainbow Runtz 6" stay in. Terpenes: only 4 of the 77 tests reported individual terpene values (all from California); Michigan and Washington labs report none.
